New islands in Nemunas river

The associated partner the State Enterprise Inland Waterways Authority continues practical conservation actions, which are foreseen in the framework of the project. The Nemunas river waterway is deepened and a new island is formed with special machinery – a floating crane. This is a new method applied for the formation of islands in Nemunas river, last year the dredger has been used. The spring is on the way, soon the first terns will return to the breeding sites, therefore it’s important to create suitable breeding sites before the season.
