Photo exhibition in the visitors’ centre of Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve

Lithuanian Ornithological Society has organised photo competition “Terns – graceful shuttles”. The competition aims to educate society and promote protection of the terns. Nature photographers could submit photos of all species of the terns.

There are five species of terns that breed in Lithuania. However, only Common Tern is considered as rather abundant. Other terns that breed in our country are Whiskered Tern, White-winged Tern, Black Tern and Little Tern. They are rare and included into the national Red book. Caspian Tern, Sandwich Tern and Arctic Tern can also be met in Lithuania.

Many photographers have submitted to the competition their unique photographs witnessing the gracefulness of the terns’ world. The contestants captured population’s social structure, acuteness of the hunting, exclusive features of the appearance, and important issues of the nature conservation.

You can visit the exhibition of the contestants and other nature photographers in the visitors center of Žuvintas Biosphere reserve.
Lithuanian Ornithological Society and its partners State Enterprise Inland Waterways Authority, Nemuno Kilpos Regional Park Administration and UAB “EKO STOMA” have initiated the exhibition. It is one of the activities of the project “Adjustment of key stakeholders’ capacity for improvement of Common and Little terns conservation status in Lithuania (LIFE TERNS)” (LIFE17 NAT/LT/000545). The project is co-funded by the EU LIFE programme, Ministry of the Environment of the Republic of Lithuania and project partners.
