New islands for terns in Nemunas river

A few open sandy islands and beaches were established in the lower course of Nemunas river by the Project partner the State Enterprise Inland Waterways Authority. These new habitats have been visited by the joint team, consisting of specialists from Nemunas delta Regional Park Administration, Ventes Ragas Ornithological Station, SE Enterprise Inland Waterways Authority and Lithuanian Ornithological Society. It seems that newly built habitats are already inhabited by the Common and Little terns, as well as other bird species, including Eurasian Oystercatcher, Ruff, Common Greenshank and others. During the visit it was decided to raise shores of some islands, so that the water suddenly flooded after the rains would not flood them.
