Meeting in Rieškutėnai

The Lithuanian Ornithological Society organised a meeting and discussion “The future prospects of the conservation of the terns. The necessary conservation actions in the areas important for their protection in the Eastern Aukštaitija” on 25 August in Rieškutėnai Craft Center. The representatives of the State Service for Protected Areas, Švenčioniai District Municipality Administration, Utena Board of the Ministry of Environment, Aukštaitija National and Labanoras Regional Parks, Aukštaitija Protected Areas Directorate, Rieškutėnai Community and Lithuanian Ornithological Society participated in the event.

This event was one of the activities of the LIFE TERNS project. The project team explained the significance of the areas important for the protection of terns in the Eastern Aukštaitija region, what are the necessary and planned management measures, and what challenges are faced by them in restoration of the habitats. After the meeting a field-trip to the near-by area of Kretuonas lake was organized. The participants could see and discuss the practical implemented nature protection measures on the spot.
