Unusual colony of Common Tern in Elektrėnai

At the beginning of July (2020.07.05), the project ornithologist Julius Morkūnas has observed an unusual concentration of Common Tern in the artificial Lake near Elektrėnai. Birds crowded next to the active sport zone, which is fenced. The pier is reinforced with the stone bags and it seems that birds liked stony background for nesting. It appeared that presence of humans does not disturb the colony unless people stop next to the pier. It was estimated that 50-70 pairs of the Common terns were breeding on the pier.
