First sightings in Nemunas island near Lipliūnai

Empty during winter and full of life in spring – Nemunas island near Lipliūnai settlement is already inhabited by various species of birds. The island was visited by the project staff in the second part of April with the aim to settle the start of the monitoring season. During the visit, the following bird species were observed: Greylag Goose, Northern Lapwing, Black-headed Gull, Common Sandpiper, Little Ringed Plover, Common Greenshank, Ruff, Common Redshank and Western Yellow Wagtail.

However the best news for the project team was the first sighting of terns in the project area. A few pairs of terns were observed during the visit, including a pair of Little Tern. It seems that in the nearest future we can expect more Common and Little terns comming to the island for breeding.
