Life on the roof

The data analysis from the GPS transmitters’ disclosed interesting facts about Common terns’ behaviour. The terns were equipped in the colony of the Nemunas river island near Prienai, however every evening a few birds were flying app. 30 kilometers to spend a night on the industrial building. Following the records, this spot was checked by the project’s ornithologists and the view on the roof of the abandoned building was stunning - at least 200 Caspian gulls, a few hundreds of Black-headed gulls, 35-40 nests of Common tern, 1 pair of Little Tern, a few Mew gulls as well as 1 pair of Little Ringed Plover were counted. More information will be provided in the next issue of the magazine “Paukščiai”.
