Pontoon rafts for terns in Lake Sartai

The pontoon rafts for terns in Lake Sartai are ready for the upcoming breeding season. These platforms are covered with a layer of gravel, protective shelters will provide protection for chicks from sun and predators.
Even though Eastern Lithuania with numerous lakes and other water bodies can provide good feeding conditions for terns, this part of the country lacks suitable breeding places for terns’ colonies. It is expected that these birds will choose artificial rafts for breeding in the lake.
Pontoon rafts were produced and delivered to the lake by the JSC Storasis ąžuolas“, the suitable places were selected by the staff of the Sartai and Gražutė regional parks administration.
