On newly formed island near Vilkija – first breeding birds

The newly poured island in the Nemunas river near Vilkija is already occupied by the first inhabitants. App. 15 pairs of Little Tern settled down on the island and started laying the eggs. The first pairs of the Black-headed gulls and Little ringed plovers were observed too. Common terns are breeding on the old natural island next to the new one, including some pairs of the Little Tern. The detailed figures will be received after the detailed monitoring of terns in the upcoming days.
The island near Vilkija according to the initial agreement with the LOD was formed by the project partner - the State Enterprise Inland Waterways Authority.
