Take part at photo competition about terns!

Lithuanian ornithological society (LOD) in cooperation with the project partners organises photo competition about terns with the aim to raise public awareness on the conservation issues of the species.

Terns are found near the rivers, lakes, fishponds, at the Curonian lagoon and at the seacoast. Five species of terns are breeding in the country, but four of them – Whiskered Tern, White-winged Tern, Black Tern and Little Tern, are rare and included into the Red Data Book of Lithuania. The most common species of terns in Lithuania is Common Tern.

The LOD is inviting to submit photos of all tern species that are found in Lithuania, not only those that breed in the country, but also Caspian Tern, Sandwich Tern and Arctic Tern, which have been registered in Lithuania. The LOD is expecting photos that would reflect the social life of the terns, hunting techniques, aspect of its protection. Please be reminded, that for taking photos of the rare species, that are included into the Lithuanian Red Data Book, at its breeding sites, a permission issued by the Environmental Protection Agency at the Ministry of Environment is required. The photos of the max size 2 MB shall be submitted by e-mail eugenijus.drobelis@birdlife.lt until 31 August, 2019. The LOD committee will select the most suitable 40 photos. Authors of the photos will receive honorariums and will be asked to submit the high-quality photos, which will be printed A3 format and used for preparation of the photo exhibition. The mobile photo exhibition will visit at least 12 different places around the country. Selected photos with indication of the authorship also will be used for production of the project materials.
